Twinsburg, Ohio - October 8, 1999 - Hitachi Medical Systems America, Inc. (HMSA) named two new Vice-Presidents/Officers and one General Manager.
Richard S. Katz joined HMSA in 1996 as Manager of Administration and Legal Affairs. He was promoted to Vice President and General Counsel. He earned his Juris Doctorate from Case Western Reserve University and his Bachelor of Arts Degree, with a major in Political Science, from The Ohio State University.
Richard A. Kurz joined HMSA in 1996 as Manager of Accounting and Finance. He was promoted to Vice President and Controller. He earned his Bachelor of Science Business Administration Degree, with a major in Accounting, from The Ohio State University.
Sheldon I. Schaffer joined HMSA in 1989 as Vice President of Marketing. Mr. Schaffer was promoted to Vice President and General Manager, Magnetic Resonance. In this position, he will continue to be responsible for Magnetic Resonance marketing. In addition, he will also be responsible for managing the joint effort between HMSA, Hitachi Medical Corporation in Japan and Colorado MEDtech, which will result in an enhanced 1.5T MR unit designed and developed in the U.S. Mr. Schaffer earned his Master of Science Degree in Biomedical Engineering from Case Western Reserve University and his Bachelor of Science Degree, with a major in Biology, from the University of Toledo.
HMSA has established a leadership position in Open MRI with more than 750 systems installed throughout the United States and 1,700 worldwide. Since the company first popularized the concept of Open MR, it has been the fastest growing segment of MRI, and today accounts for about 50 percent of all MRI system sales.
